You Can Grow Your Own Organic Garden With These Tips!

You have probably heard about organic food and perhaps purchased some. You’re well aware of which items the organic ones are. These foods are not packaged the same and tend to cost much more. You can cut the store out of the equation and save a lot of money by planting your own patch of organic vegetables in the back yard!

Starting off your garden with healthy soil can be the best defense against those pesky garden bugs. The hearty plants that will grow in a garden with rich soil can resist the bugs and diseases that weak plants can’t withstand. To increase your garden’s likelihood of producing strong and healthy plants, use high-quality soil containing minuscule amounts of chemicals, which will eventually collect salts.

Baking Soda

There are home solutions available to combat the powdery mildew you may find on your plants. Instead, combine baking soda with water and liquid soap. This solution can be sprayed onto your plants once per week until the problem is resolved. Do not worry about your plants; the baking soda cannot harm them.

It is a good idea to pre-soak your seeds in a dark environment overnight. Drop some seeds into a small glass or other container, and fill it with water. That way, the seeds will have sufficient hydration and will have the best start possible. Your seeds will then have the best chance possible to survive to maturity.

Before you start planting your garden, plan it out. This helps you remember where each plant was planted before they begin to sprout. The plan will also help you keep track of your more diminutive plants and smaller groups that could otherwise become lost among a sea of larger plantings.

Knee Pads

To save your knees from the wear and tear of horticulture, invest in some knee pads if your garden includes a lot of low-growth plants. Long hours spent in the garden will wreak havoc on your knees. Cushion your knees with a pair of gardening knee pads.

When you boil vegetables, use the leftover water on your potted plants. Some plants, such as gardenias, azaleas and rhododendrons need acidic soil for proper growth. Increase the acidity of your soil by adding coffee grounds and unused tea bags. If fungus is an issue, Chamomile tea sprinkled on the plant may be effective.

Avoid using broad-spectrum pesticides in your garden. Besides killing the insects you don’t want, this type of pesticide will also kill beneficial insects. Beneficial insects are more susceptible to strong pesticides than the insects you are actually trying to get rid of. This will lead you to end up killing off the good bugs in your garden, leaving the field wide open for the harmful ones. This may then lead to using even more pesticides to eliminate this new problem.

Be sure to plant using the colors of Fall. That doesn’t have to be it though. The foliage of autumn makes for perhaps the most colorful season of the year. Maple trees come in a variety of fall colors ranging from yellow to deep crimson, as do Beech trees and Dogwood. Some vibrant shrubs include hydrangea, barberry, and cotoneaster.

Gardening helps with relaxation. There are numerous avenues to pursue when attempting to find your personal peace and relaxation. Amongst the simplest ways to get there is to start a garden. You will not need to spend a lot of money to grow your garden, and it provides many benefits. Of course the highest return is the peace you will feel from having some time alone in your garden and growing your own plants.

In the hottest time of the day, most vegetables are less firm; even the act of harvesting the veggies may cause bruising. Make sure to chop the vegetables off the vine, but be careful not to twist them. Twisting can actually damage the plant.
