Want Flowers In Your Garden All Year Long? Try These Tips.

If you want a healthy organic garden, you have many options. All you need to do is find out what they are, and then use them.

Trying to shovel through clay soil can be extremely difficult and tiresome. Rubbing wax on the shovel prior to digging can kick this challenge to the curb. This will both make the clay fall off of the surface, and prevent the surface from rusting.

Plant seeds in pots that have a rich soil to give them a strong start. Doing this betters your odds of your plants making it to adulthood. This also helps tighten time between plantings. Your next crop of seedlings will be started and ready to be planted immediately after you remove your last crop from the garden.

The kind of soil you use will influence the results. Depending on what kind of plants you want in your garden, the soil might or might not be adapted. It is also possible to set aside a portion of your garden to include just one type of soil.

Before you even start planting the garden, check the soil. You can get a soil analysis, and if you find your soil needs a supplement, do it! Cooperative Extension departments often offer this testing service. It is a worthwhile effort so a garden can be productive on the first year of planting.

For showy flowers throughout the spring and summer, plant plenty of bulbs. Bulbs are generally very simple to grow and hearty, as well; they will continue to grow for years. Keep in mind that different bulb types bloom differently and at different time periods, so when you choose a bulb plan accordingly, you can have your plant blooms lasting spring into summer.

Plant cool-weather edibles in the fall. A pumpkin makes a great container, and costs less than a clay pot. Hollow out the pumpkin and spray with Wilt-Pruf to prevent rot. Now you can use the pumpkin as a planter.

Coffee Grounds

For areas with high alkaline, mix coffee grounds into the soil. Coffee grounds are an inexpensive way to increase the acid level in your soil. When you use them, you will start to notice that your vegetables are tastier and more vibrant in color.

Get some horticulture knee pads if you find yourself kneeling on the ground a lot to do your horticulture. You will spend a lot of time on your knees while horticulture, which can result in knee pain. Having a pair of excellent knee pads for horticulture can help cushion the knees to provide additional comfort.

One natural method of weed removal is called “boiling”. Boiling water in a pot is a safe “herbicide.” Make sure to pour only on the weeds and to stay away from healthy vegetation. The weeds’ roots will be damaged by the boiling water; normally, this prevents them from continuing to grow.

A good green garden should start from seeds and not plants. As a green-friendly gardener, you always want to use seeds to start your new plot. It’s better for your garden, in particular, because transplants have high failure rates; whereas, sprouting a seed and growing a plant in the same conditions is better. Additionally, it’s better for the environment, because the plastic pots used by most greenhouses are generally not recycled and are cluttering landfills.

Use only pesticides designed to kill the specific type of pest in your garden, and avoid the broad-spectrum kind. If your pesticide has too wide a range of targets, it can kill off useful insects that fight off other pests. Beneficial insects are more susceptible to toxic pesticides than their annoying counterparts, so a broad-spectrum pesticide could kill all of the good bugs first, allowing the population of bad pests to multiply. This might result in you having to use even more pesticides to get rid of the pests.

Horticulture can be done by anyone, but only those armed with the proper information can get the most from their organic garden. Make sure to use these organic tips.
