Before actually becoming, or attempting to become pregnant, take some form of prenatal vitamin. The first trimester is the time when your fetus develops the beginnings of its spinal cord and brain, which is called the neural cord. Starting right at conception, it’s very important you get the required amounts of nutrients, including iron, calcium and folic acid.
Stay away from Vitamin A if you are pregnant. It is known for causing damage to a baby during early development. Don’t eat foods with this vitamin. You should avoid foods like egg yolks, mangoes, liver, and mozzarella cheese. Although you can have these foods on occasion, you shouldn’t consume them every day.
Get a doula. Dolulas are trained professionals that help coach a woman during labor. Their support can be both moral and physical. They can also help your partner become a better birth coach as both you and your partner can feel better when you have such an experienced person with the two of you.
Ask about getting a tour around the place where you will give birth the closer you get to delivery. Your labor can become easier when you give birth in a place that’s comfortable to you. Check around to find the place that most fits your needs. You want to be sure that you, and the person that will be with you during the birth, will be comfortable.
Moms who are post due date should consider taking a brisk walk. That will sometimes get labor started. Walking works to bring the baby down to the birth position. See if you can get your partner to join. Don’t go overboard with heavy or contact exercising.
Take the time to eat a small serving of bland foods every couple of hours when you are pregnant. Keep bland foods on your stomach will help ease the feeling of nausea. Also, it is important that you avoid greasy and acidy foods as this will make your nausea worse and give you heartburn.
Cease changing cat litter if you’re pregnant. Cat litter shouldn’t be handled because of the risk of toxoplasmosis. This disease can cause stillbirth, miscarriage, or birth defects in humans.
Stretch out your legs before you go to bed so that you can avoid having leg cramps. You may wake up with your legs tangled, so this will help loosen them up. Stretch before bed and stay hydrated to prevent leg cramps.
You can use your regular pants longer by using a hair tie with the button hole, zipping up your pants afterwards. Wear a long shirt, and no one will know your pants are unbuttoned. You’ll be able to save money and gain back a little bit of time – you don’t need to shop for maternity clothes as often!
It’s really important to remember to make time for yourself. After you deliver your baby, your life is going to be far more complex than now, and you won’t have as much time to pamper yourself. Take the time to visit with friends, get your nails done, or spend time doing something you enjoy. You will feel much better, and so will your unborn child.
Don’t sit too long. After a long day some pregnant women will experience swollen feet and legs. This happens because of the extra strain on the circulatory system, especially that of the lower body, in late pregnancy. Swelling is made worse when you have to stay seated for extended periods of time, such as for a long car drive or a desk job. There are a few ways to reduce swelling, such as sleeping on your left, soaking your feet in a bowl of cold water and avoiding tight socks.
